interforum: Talk/ Launch / Be a Better Being: Introducing a new Format

The Young Academy, in cooperation with interfilm Berlin, the Deutsche Kinemathek, the Film University Babelsberg and the filmArche Berlin, invites film makers and academics to the Forum and short film competition “Be a Better Being”. The call for contributions will be issued in January 2016.
“When scientists are lost for words, films give the answers!” - The project “Be a Better Being” brings together film makers and academics in search for new, adequate vocabularies helping us to reflect upon questions challenging the contemporary societies. The medium ‘film’, we believe, gives voice to to anyone, it is a truly democratic and levelling medium that, captures their emotions, beliefs, worries, and hopes, and transmits them successfully to larger audiences. In discussions with film makers, scientists see the chance of overcoming our disciplinary and methodological boundaries and of engaging with ambivalences, humor, and irony. The confrontation of science and film, we are convinced, can be surprisingly productive to both sides.

This event is launching the project Be a Better Being. We introduce the idea of this new format, offer the pre-announcement of the call, and share some experiences from the last year’s Film Forum “EUROPE UNLIMITED”. You are invited to come, ask questions and brainstorm with our guest on what it means to be a better being.
