Club Inferno

by SIGNA

The Club Inferno was established by Beatrice Godeux ten years ago as a luxury class casino in Berlin’s borough Wedding in the style of a glamorous Las Vegas venue. After his adored mother Beatrice died, her son Herbert has turned it into a place where guests and staff regularly gather to play games revolving around the thin line between life and death. Proceeding from Dante’s topology of hell, they are confronted with their own lifes, and their desires and anxieties, in a world in which bad deeds can no longer be washed away by a purifying bath, because there is no divine (or natural) power to forgive our sins. Today the club has mutated into a sick parallel universe, where most of its “inhabitants” are stuck and rarely ever take a step outdoors. Rather, they are trapped in Dante’s circles of hell, living in limbo and sharing a collective psychosis with no connection to real life. Similar to Dante’s imaginary guide Vergil, Herbert Godeux invites us on a journey beyond the grave, urging us to abandon all hope and cross the river of Acheron.
Club Inferno is the first full-length production on the theatre stage by the performance collective SIGNA in Berlin. The event takes place at Volksbühne, in a venue located next to Volksbühne (Pavilion) and at Club Inferno.
