Teater Nya Rampen - Worship!

Nya Rampen takes hold of the most renowned plays of all time, taking a look at mortal sins through Shakespeare’s tragedies. What does Nietzsche’s famous quote »God is dead« mean to the modern world that is struggling in a chaos after the humanistic era?

The scepticism nurtured by postmodernists has been overcome by populist right-wing and religious fundamentalism, as people are searching for easily understandable all-encompassing answers. WORSHIP! examines the characteristic human need to believe in and belong to something, be it a religion, an ideology or art. Nya Rampen ponders why fiction such as Shakespeare’s tragedies still has such a hold on audiences. Do we need stories in order to understand reality? Is the theatre slowly becoming our church? The Finnish Theatre company Nya Rampen was founded 12 years ago in Helsinki and is now based in Berlin. With their latest project CONTE D’AMOUR, which was developed in association with the Swedish group INSTITUTET, they have been invited to numerous European festivals and were awarded this year’s main prize at the theatre festival Impulse leading to an invitation to the Berlin Theatertreffen 2012.
